Street Works Units

There are 16 units of competence: 9 units for operatives (marked ’O’ below) and 8 units for supervisors (marked ‘S’).  These units are as follows:

 

01 Location and avoidance of underground apparatus (O & S)

02 Signing, lighting and guarding (O)

03 Excavation in the highway (O)

04 Reinstatement and compaction of backfill materials (O)

05 Reinstatement of sub-base and roadbase in no-bituminous materials (O)

06 Reinstatement of cold-lay bituminous materials (O)

07 Reinstatement of hot-lay bituminous materials (O)

08 Reinstatement of concrete slabs (O)

09 Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways (O)

10 Monitoring signing, lighting and guarding (S)

11 Monitoring excavation in the highway (S)

12 Monitoring reinstatement and compaction of backfill materials (S)

13 Monitoring reinstatement of sub-base and roadbase in non-bituminous materials (S)

14 Monitoring reinstatement in bituminous materials (S)

15 Monitoring reinstatement of concrete slabs (S)

16 Monitoring reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways (S)

 

A separate certificate is issued for each unit.  In addition, various combinations of Street Works units will lead to a full Street Works award certificate.  There are 10 full qualifications, listed below, together with the units required for each:

 

Qualifications for Operatives

001        Excavation in the highway (Units 01, 02 & 03)

002        Excavation, backfilling and reinstatement of construction layers with a cold-lay

   bituminous surface (Units 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 & 06)

003        Reinstatement of construction layers in hot-lay and cold-lay bituminous material

   (Units 01, 02, 06 & 07)

004        Reinstatement of concrete slabs (Units 01, 02 & 08)

005        Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways (Units 01, 02 & 09)

 

Qualifications for Supervisors

006        Monitoring excavation in the highway (Units 01, 10 & 11)

007        Monitoring excavation, backfilling and reinstatement of construction layers with 

   bituminous materials (Units 01, 10, 11, 12, 13 & 14)

008        Monitoring reinstatement of construction layers in bituminous materials

   (Units 01, 10 & 14)

009        Monitoring reinstatement of concrete slabs (Units 01, 10 & 15)

010        Monitoring reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways       

                (Units 01, 10 & 16)
