NVQs

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are designed to allow learners to show that they are competent to carry out their job role. A learner undertaking an NVQ will need to demonstrate consistent competence over time against the requirements of national occupational standards (NOS).  The NOS are developed by Sector Skills Councils or other standards-setting bodies working in partnership with industry representatives.  All of CABWI’s NVQs require the learner to provide evidence from their workplace, to confirm competence.

CABWI’s NVQs are delivered through approved assessment centres, that have the facilities, resources and personnel required for each scheme or qualification that they assess. Some learners undertake NVQs in combination with other qualifications, as part of an apprenticeship.

CABWI offers water and multi-utility NVQs at Levels 1-4 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). More detailed information about the NVQ system and CABWI’s NVQs is available on our Resources page. In Scotland, CABWI works jointly with SQA Awarding Body to provide Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs), that are equivalent to its NVQs. Further details of SQA/CABWI water and multi-utility SVQs can be found at the SQA website.

With effect from 2011, the National Qualifications Framework is being replaced.  CABWI’s suite of NVQs is being replaced and updated with a full suite of competence-based qualifications in the new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).  Learners who wish to undertake any of CABWI’s vocational qualifications must register at an approved assessment centre for the new QCF qualifications.  Our Resources page includes full lists of CABWI NVQs and CABWI QCF qualifications.  If you are a learner, employer or are involved in delivering NVQs, and you need to know which QCF qualifications have replaced CABWI’s previous NVQs, an update can be found here on our Resources page.
